Its been said that one person can’t really make a difference in the scheme of things, but history tells us a different story. Like each of us, every famous person, good or bad came into this world with a clean slate. From the moment of birth and throughout our lives, the people and events around us develop our frame of reference and mold who we become. We all have the ability to impact the world — and how we do that comes from our choices. We have choices! We can choose who and what to believe in — surround ourselves with — spend our energy on. We can empower others to steal our thunder and drain our lives or to inspire and motivate us. A very dear friend of mine, Patty Miller, posted the above video on her Facebook site and in doing so, she made a difference. Now I would like to pay it forward. The message from the author is amazing. What we believe, and put into life is what we will get out of it and every single one of us can make a difference — even if you only touch one single soul at a time. This childhood story exemplifies my premise and I’ve always cherished it:
The Starfish Story
(unknown)
There was a young man walking down a deserted beach just before dawn. In the distance he saw a frail old man, he saw him picking up stranded starfish and
throwing them back into the sea. The young man gazed in wonder as the old man again and again threw the small starfish from the sand to the water. He asked “Old man, why do you spend so much energy doing what seems to be a waste of time?” The old man explained that the stranded starfish would die if left in the morning sun. “But there must be thousands of beaches and millions of starfish!” exclaimed the young man. “How can you make any difference?” The old man looked down at the small starfish in his hand and as he threw it to the safety of the sea, he said,
” I can make a difference to this one!”
Some could argue that one person rarely makes a difference in the scheme of things, but I believe they can and they do every day. That’s what it’s all about, BELIEF. If you believe in yourself you can make a difference. Don’t empower others to deflate your hopes and dreams. We can all make the world a better place one starfish at a time. (Thanks Patty!) Something so small, that we dismiss or think no one will ever notice, can inspire someone. Your message has shown me that I have the ability to be positive influence on anyone I come in contact with. It is my deepest hope that everyone understands this lesson, as you have expressed in this message. Thank you, as always, for how you have positively affected my life…and how you continue to do so, with me, and so many others!
Making a difference is what I want to be able to do in my relationships. If there is an advice I will take from this blog it will be that my happiness comes from my relationship with myself and those that know me and in these situations kindness will make a difference Patience will remind me to stay close Forgiveness will allows us to remain friends Courtesy will encourage me Humility will sustain me. Generosity will build me and honesty will make a difference. These qualities will make a difference one step at a time. And the biggest difference will be how I live my life And that joy and my relationship to others be a path that makes God a bigger part of my life. Thankyou for this encouragement. How do we climb a mountain unless it is one step at a time
