Secrets kept from me throughout my life were the catalyst for a series of poor decisions that I made over the years, but those secrets, though interesting, were truly irrelevant to who I am. The significant secret has been within my reach throughout my entire life. I only wish I had discovered it years ago!
A recent
health study determined there are 3 main reasons people can’t cope in life:
- They live in the past.
- They have a low self-esteem and don’t believe in themselves.
- They can’t laugh at themselves.
There are tons of educated teachers, philosophers, theologians, scientists and psychologists who have written volumes about the secrets to a happy life and most of them have come to similar conclusions. From words throughout the Holy Bible … Plato … Norman Vincent Peale … Albert Einstein … and Dale Carnegie … to Rhonda Byrne’s The Secret … and countless others, the secret to a happy and fulfilled life have been cussed and discussed.
Henry Ford hit the nail on the head when he said “Whether you believe you can, or whether you believe you can’t, you’re absolutely right.”
I have gone through a lot of “stuff” in my life and I survived. My philosophy on life and what I believe to be the secrets to happiness have evolved over the course of 50 years, but I finally “get it.” To me, the core secret to life can be condensed into simplicity.
Letting go of past pain and believing your dreams are possible despite past failure, is the key to true happiness.
It is the greatest secret of all and the knowledge of it is life altering. It’s simple, right? Believe in yourself … but it’s not always easy. When I spent so much of my life thinking negatively, it was hard to start thinking positively. Hard … but not impossible. I just had to re-program my brain like I would re-program my computer. What I put in is what I got out. That’s why it’s so important to surround yourself with positive influences. It’s kinda like if you hang around garbage, you start to stink.
I don’t have all the answers … I don’t even have all the questions, but I know what I have learned. You can choose to be happy! Surround yourself with positive people, let go of past pain, believe in yourself and laugh … a lot.
Happiness is attainable and it is within all of us to change the course of our lives and make a difference. Be happy …
