Today I have a philanthropic request. I’m sure everyone is now aware of the horiffic fires decimating Australia. As individuals, we feel empathy but seldom know what we can do to come to the aid of the victims. This post is about how one author worked together with several other authors and ultimately Rhonda Penders, the publisher of The Wild Rose Press to come to the aid of a country in need. Australia Burns is a three-book series of short stories and all the profits will be donated to the victims of the country’s tragedy.

YOU CAN HELP, by simply buying these books. I’d like to add, due to previous comittments, I was not able to join these amazing authors. But I completely support all of them and would love it if my outreach can help this cause. Here is a note from the man who initiated Australia Burns, Stephen B. King.

My name is Stephen King––no not THAT Stephen King… I’m an Australian author, and I’m responsible for taking the idea of an anthology to the authors of The Wild Rose Press and Rhonda Penders, the publisher. The response was fantastic and led to 50 stories published across 3 volumes with all royalties from the publisher and authors going to The Australian Red Cross for aid and recovery programs.

I was thrilled to be asked to write a Foreword for the books:
Every State in Australia suffered horrendous fires, and over the last several weeks. I’ve been fortunate to travel to Victoria, and this week to South Australia to check out the aftermath for myself. I’ve seen some heartbreaking sights of homes lost, vineyards wiped out, towns decimated, and unfortunately there has been horrific loss of life. For all of that, there is hope……. Hope that the fires don’t return (recent rains have helped a lot) and hope that people can rebuild.
The biggest fear now is that tourists stay away. They think there isn’t any thing left to see, which of course is wrong, and by staying away, businesses that rely on tourism are at risk of folding, which would cause a second wave of disaster. That’s why we chose the Red Cross because its not just about giving money to those who need it, but recognising recovery is as important.
